I began to reflect on the portraits on the walls. I thought of everything they had been; Who were they? What was their favorite food? Were they selfish or humble? How did they speak? … but what were they now? They were all gone, they had turned to dirt, nothing they had done during their life had saved them from death. So I played with that concept, life and death, the interior and the exterior, who we are between the bones. I learned a lot about human anatomy, especially the position of the bones located in the upper part such as the skull, cervicals, clavicles, ribs, shoulders …
The idea for this series came to me when I was visiting the Prado Museum, Madrid.
«we are all dirt»
